Away with the fairies

Sam McKechnie is an artist working with found vintage objects and materials with which she makes bespoke pieces from fairy dolls and charm necklaces to chandeliers and boxes filled with images. She created The Magpie & the Wardrobe atelier in 2002 as an extension of her artwork and releases two collections worldwide every year. She has recently completed her first book with Alexandrine Portelli. “The Magpie and the Wardrobe - A curiosity of Folklore Magic and Spells”(Published by Pavilion).Sam McKechnie’s family home is just what you would expect from someone who is fascinated with the whimsical and the magical the old and the odd. Their Battersea home is an enchanting mix of pattern quirky objects cherished heirloom pieces and old fabrics which she lives in with her husband two daughters and two Lurchers.
